After her nearly first full week at Fandom High, Naomi decided to contact her mom back home in San Fracisco in the 24th Century. Her roommate wasn't there at the moment and so she went onto her computer and set up a communications link back to her mother, wondering if she was there.
Fortunately she didn't have to wait long.
"Mom!" Naomi exclaimed excitedly as her mother appeared on the screen.
"Hi sweetie," Samantha Wildman said in response, "how do you like Fandom so far?"
Naomi considered her response, "it's not that bad," she had to admit that, at least, "I'd rather be back home with you and dad in San Fracisco but for a high school it's not that bad," she refrained from mentioning how weird the school was for the minute.
Samantha smiled in approval, she knew that her only child wasn't happy at being sent to high school but she was pleased that she was making an effort to like Fandom High. It seemed like a good school from what she had learnt about it and knew that it was the right place for her daughter to attend high school before she went on to Starfleet Academy.
"What have you done so far Naomi?" Samantha asked.
"Well once Lieutenant Paris dropped me off at Fandom, I checked into the school's office," Naomi replied, "on Sunday there was a welcome party for the new students and that was fun, I met a few people and talked to them for a little while. I found my big sister in the Big Sibling/Little Sibling program after the party finished, her name's Nadia Santos, because we managed to lose each other the first day. Monday I didn't really do that much, on Tuesday I attended a First Aid Course run by the school, that was really interesting," Naomi added, "I figured learning first aid would be very useful not just for my future Starfleet career but in everyday life," she paused, "that's mostly what I've done so far, oh and I've signed up for classes but I've got to wait and see if I've got into them yet or not and I met my roommate,"
"And what is she like?" Samantha asked.
"Actually my roommate's a he, apparently co-ed dorms are common around here, it's not that bad," Naomi replied, "he's really nice and I think we're going to get along good,"
"Well I'm glad to hear that Naomi," Samantha replied honestly, "When do classes start?"
"Next Monday," Naomi replied, "I can't wait,"
"I bet you can't," Samantha agreed, she knew that Naomi enjoyed learning very much, "well I'm glad to see that you're settling in at Fandom High and thank you for checking in,"
"You welcome mom," Naomi replied, "I'll try calling once a week," she promised.
"That would be good," Samantha smiled, "have fun sweetie, I'll talk to you later, bye,"
"I will mom," Naomi replied, "bye," Samantha's smiling face disappeared from the screen as her mother ended the transmission.
